SUMMER VOLUNTEER NEEDS!

Summer is fast upon us, and we are in need of help during the months of July and August:

·      Sunday School:  Our Atrium 1 and 2 Sunday School staff will be receiving a much-needed hiatus during the months of July and August.  If we are to continue to have Sunday School offered during these months, we need volunteers for the 9 Sundays in July and August.  Parents in particular, we urge you to take on one Sunday this Summer.  It would be a lovely way to express your appreciation for Teachers Shelley, Kristin, Jackie, Stephanie, Brittney and Carol!  Contact Susie Kenny at the parish office or by email to deacon@stmarksglendale.org.

·      BBQ Hosts Needed for Wednesday Night BBQ’s in the Courtyard:  The nine Wednesdays in July and August are BBQ’s in the Courtyard, beginning at 6 pm, prior to the 7 pm Mass.  We need hosts for each of these BBQ’s.  Hosts are responsible for providing hamburgers and hot dogs (including buns, fixins’ and condiments) and manning the gas grill, and guests provide the remainder of the meal in potluck fashion.  If you can host a Wednesday night, please contact Susie Kenny at the parish office or by email. Hosts are still needed for July 9, July 16, August 13, August 20 and August 27. First BBQ is Wednesday, July 2nd, hosted by Susie Kenny.

ERD SOLICITS DONATIONS FOR RELIEF EFFORTS IN CHINA

Episcopal Relief and Development continues to provide emergency assistance to families impacted by the severe earthquake in China. Over 55,000 people are confirmed dead and 25,000 are still unaccounted for from the massive earthquake that shook southwest China on May 12th. Nearly 300,000 people have been injured.  So far, 4,000 children have been orphaned by the disaster. Officials say about 10 million people have been affected by the quake.  Five million people in Sichuan Province are homeless.  Many are in refugee camps, without proper shelter, food or clean water.

Episcopal Relief and Development is providing ongoing support to the Amity Foundation, its local partner, to distribute 240,000 kilos of rice to 16,000 people and plastic sheeting and quilts to provide shelter and warmth to 8,000 families impacted by the disaster.  Housing, hospitals, clinics, schools, and water systems all need to be rebuilt.

To help people affected by the earthquake in China, please make a donation to Episcopal Relief and Development’s “Emergency Relief Fund” online at http://www.er-d.org , or call 1-800-334-7626, ext. 5129. NEW MINISTRY OPPORTUNITY

St. Mark's is working with the Interfaith Refugee & Immigration Service, a ministry of the L.A. Diocese, by providing volunteers who are able to work a couple of hours on a Friday from 10:30 until 1:00 helping to distribute groceries to refugee families being serviced by the IRIS. All that is needed is a welcoming demeanor! If you can help out, our goal being enough volunteers that none need work more than one Friday a month. Please contact Susie Kenny at the parish office (818.240.3860) or by email to fowler.kenny@sbcglobal.net.

HABITAT FOR HUMANITY WORKDAYS

The project is located south of Monterey and east of Louise and is expected to be a two-year build. Lunch and water are provided as are supplies and tools. Gloves and hats are helpful. Experience is helpful but not necessary. Contact Les Halpert by email at lhalpert@allen-industrial.com or call 818.265.2094 after 6:00 p.m. for more information.
