Artworks Glendale:

A new program of St. Mark's which seeks to provide free workshops in the arts to underserved children in the Glendale area. For more information or to become involved in this exciting new ministry, please contact Susie Fowler Kenny (fowler.kenny@sbcglobal.net or 818.248.3301).

Cristo Rey/Diocese of Mexico:
St. Mark's companion relationship with the mission parish of Cristo Rey on the outskirts of Mexico City. For information or to become involved in this evolving relationship with our brothers and sisters in the Diocese of Mexico, please contact Susie Fowler Kenny (fowler.kenny@sbcglobal.net or 818.248.3301).

Food Cabinet:
St. Mark's collects non-perishable food items and paper goods for the food cabinet. The items collected will either be used by St. Swithin's, Food for Body & Soul (FFB&S), or donated to First United Methodist's food cabinet.  St. Swithin's continues to serve meals on Fridays at the Lord's Kitchen. Useful items include condiments in individual packets, napkins, plastic wear, 8 oz. cups, canned veggies, and large sizes of pasta and pasta sauce, tuna, etc.

Food for Body and Soul:
Prepares and serves an afternoon meal each Sunday of the year to the homeless, rotating locations each month at various churches in the Glendale area. To volunteer, lend financial support or for more information, contact Monique Poon (monique923@earthlink.net or 818.500.8390).

In addition to feeding Glendale's needy on Sundays, FFB&S now coordinates the Lord's Kitchen.

Habitat for Humanity:
Contact Les Halpert (lhalpert@allen-industrial.com or 818.265.2094) to become a volunteer, give financial support, or get answers to your questions about this worldwide organization dedicated to building homes for families who might otherwise never own a home.

St. Mark's volunteers are needed to help build an 11 unit project at 711 N. Kenwood in Glendale. We meet the second Saturday of each month at the church parking lot by 7:45 a.m. to be at the work site at 8:00 a.m. Work is usually finished by 2:00 p.m. Volunteers can drive to the site and leave early. The project is located south of Monterey and east of Louise and is expected to be a two-year build. Lunch and water are provided as are supplies and tools. Gloves and hats are helpful. Experience is helpful but not necessary. Contact Les Halpert by email at lhalpert@allen-industrial.com or call 818.265.2094 after 6:00 p.m. for more information. Our first build day was Saturday March 8th. Volunteer experienced crew leaders are also needed for all workdays.

St. Mark's participates in the lunch program of Project New Hope, preparing and serving lunch at the outpatient clinic at County USC medical center the 4th Wednesday of each month. To volunteer for food preparation, transporting and serving food at County USC, or to make a financial contribution, contact Elise Copley (emcopley@sbcglobal.net or 818.265.2094).

St. Swithin's:
Prepares and serves a hot meal each Friday of the month through the Lord's Kitchen program. To become a volunteer, donate the money needed to purchase the food and supplies, or for more information, contact Elise Copley (emcopley@sbcglobal.net or 818.265.2094).

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED to serve the homeless. To better serve Glendale's homeless and needy, St. Swithin's will begin providing sack lunches to the homeless every Monday and Friday. Rather than having those in need come to us, we will go to them. The Monday sack lunch program begins 2/11/08 and the Friday sack lunch program will be in March. We will continue to prepare hot lunches on Friday through February.

We need teams to help once per month with the following:

Sunday from Noon to 1:30 p.m. to prepare Monday's sack lunches

A team leader who will shop in advance and organize Sunday's work

This is a good opportunity for families, as preparation involves mostly assembly line work. It is also an opportunity for those who work during the week days to volunteer on Sundays

Teams of two on Mondays to pick up the sandwiches and take them to the distribution point. Sandwiches will be distributed from 12-12:30 p.m.

We also need to know if there is interest in preparing sandwiches on a weeknight instead of on a Sunday

Current Friday teams will remain in place. However, new volunteers are always welcome

Please contact Elise Copley if you can be of assistance (818) 265-2094 or emcopley@sbcglobal.net

PLEASE NOTE: Revised shopping list for St. Swithin's (feeding the hungry). We will not need any more cans of vegetables, canned fruit, soup, potatoes, etc. since our menu has changed. Monetary gifts will be accepted. Please contact Elise Copley for further information.

Additionally, Saint Mark’s gives modest financial support to several diocesan ministries:
